September 15

Diversity Council Associate Event: Hispanic Heritage Month | 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Each year, Americans observe National Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.

Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year—the day on which we are closest to G‑d and to the quintessence of our own souls. It is the Day of Atonement—“For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G‑d” (Leviticus 16:30). Learn more.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month

National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. Learn more.

We’re partnering with our AIM Team to bring you a great program featuring a wonderful organization, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, whose mission is to "create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth".  Delta Dental provides financial and leadership support to this organization, and Associate Impact Moments is the perfect time to spotlight the great work they do!

World AIDS Day is dedicated to spreading awareness of the AIDS pandemic spread by the spread of HIV infection, and to mourning those who have died of the disease. Learn more.

First day of Hanukah
The eight-day Jewish celebration known as Hanukkah or Chanukah commemorates the rededication during the second century B.C. of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where according to legend Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt. Learn more.
