Delta Dental® knows that our moms-to-be need enhanced dental benefits during pregnancy, and offers this coverage option to companies with 2-50 employees.

Oral health concerns intensify with pregnancy.

  • Due to the hormonal changes that take place, pregnant women are at higher risk for serious, painful conditions such as tooth decay, canker sores and gum disease.
  • Gum disease that progresses can increase the risk for delivering a low birth weight or preterm baby.
  • Long term, it can result in a life-long health problems for the child and increased financial strain and absenteeism for the mother.
  • During pregnancy, it is important to provide regular—and sometimes even extra—dental care for women.
  • Routine cleanings can help keep teeth and gums healthy.
  • Dental X-rays (usually considered safe during pregnancy) help dentists catch any serious problems early on before complications develop.
  • Pregnant women can even undergo procedures requiring anesthesia (such as fillings or root canals)—although these types of treatments are usually not done until after the first trimester.
Enhanced benefits deliver extra dental coverage when women need it most.

  • Delta Dental’s enhanced pregnancy benefit offers expectant mothers an additional dental exam during the calendar year they are pregnant.
  • Other carriers limit their pregnancy benefit to an additional cleaning, but Delta Dental offers their patients a choice.
  • Depending on their oral health needs, members can receive either:
  • An additional cleaning, or
  • An additional periodontal scaling or root planing per quadrant.
