Homemade Baby Foods to Make Your Child Smile

August 30, 2023

Homemade baby foods are an easily digestible, nutritious way to help keep little ones’ smiles healthy. And for you, because they use abundantly available fresh fruits and vegetables, they’re environmentally sustainable, inexpensive, and simple to create!

All you need is a blender—plus fresh ingredients and water, breastmilk, or formula to thin it if needed—and you’re ready to go.

With multiple different foods and the advice of experienced parents, you can introduce plenty of variety into your baby’s diet. We highlight some of the best recipes below, with tips for easy-to-make foods packed with vitamins and nutrients.

Baby food purees with single ingredients are especially simple. You’ll find several varieties here.

Different recipes for different baby stages

Stage 1 baby foods will help your child transition to solids around four to six months old. Here are recipe ideas involving peas, bananas, baby brown rice, avocados, baked sweet potatoes, and first carrots, including purees for several of these.

As your child’s digestive system becomes more comfortable with these new tastes, stage 2 baby foods will take them to a different level with new food combinations and textures to experience. Your baby will enjoy such yummy treats as banana French toast sticks, baby food cookies, and three other recipes that take the bite out of teething.

Ease the process of baby-feeding

Being a first-time parent is rife with anxiety—and because every baby is different, the questions don’t cease, even if experience relieves some of the worries. You’ll still want foods that won’t cost too much or take too long to prepare, that your child will like and react well to, and that will be best for their short- and long-term oral and overall health.

Relax. We think that once you see your baby beaming after they’ve tasted the results of the above recipes, you’ll be smiling, too!
