The lion, one of the fiercest of carnivores,
has 30 teeth. These include four large pointed teeth
called canines. Instead of molars, they have four
"carnassials," which work like scissors
for cutting food. The rest of their teeth are conical
shaped. Lions don't really chew their food because
their jaw can't move from side to side. The lion
cub's milk (baby) teeth appear about three weeks
after birth.
By the way, the plant dandelion was
named from the French, "dent de lion," meaning
teeth of the lion. The dandelion was so named because
the jagged leaf of the plant resembles a lion's teeth. |
